Project Overview:

Mining and Metals:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.

Job Summary:

The Demolition & Decommissioning Lead will provide subject matter expertise and technical oversight to support the development and execution planning of demolition and decommissioning activities during the Selection phase of the Project.

The role will act as Bechtel's internal technical authority for demolition and decommissioning matters, supporting the Constructability Manager and Project Manager in evaluating contractor proposals, challenging methodologies, validating execution strategies and ensuring alignment between demolition planning, operational constraints, safety requirements and overall project objectives.

The role provides technical governance, independent review and subject matter expertise to ensure proposed approaches are practical, safe, efficient and consistent with project requirements.

Major Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership

• Providing subject matter expertise on demolition and decommissioning planning, sequencing and execution strategies.
• Reviewing and challenging contractor demolition methodologies, work packaging approaches and execution plans.
• Supporting development of demolition and decommissioning strategies suitable for brownfield operational environments.
• Assessing constructability implications, critical interfaces, tie-ins and execution risks associated with proposed demolition activities.
• Supporting development and review of demolition scopes, assumptions and technical requirements.

Contractor Support and Oversight

• Acting as Bechtel's primary technical counterpart for demolition contractors.
• Participating in technical evaluations, workshops, clarifications and contractor engagement activities.
• Reviewing contractor deliverables and provide independent technical recommendations.
• Supporting alignment and consistency between participating contractors where multiple demolition contractors are engaged.

Project Planning and Execution Readiness

• Supporting development and validation of demolition sequencing and decommissioning roadmaps.
• Reviewing schedule logic and identify critical execution constraints, opportunities and risks.
• Supporting integration of demolition activities with permitting, environmental, operational and construction requirements.
• Assisting in identifying long lead activities, temporary works requirements, access constraints and logistics considerations.

Risk and Governance

• Identifying demolition-related technical risks and recommend mitigation measures.
• Supporting risk workshops, constructability reviews and execution readiness assessments.
• Providing technical input into management reviews, project reports and decision-making forums.
• Supporting development of technical assurance processes and lessons learned.

Stakeholder Coordination

• Interfacing with Project Controls, Engineering, Construction, Operations and external consultants.
• Supporting coordination between Bechtel and demolition contractors and specialist consultants.
• Participating in technical workshops and constructability reviews with project stakeholders.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience, Civil and Structural Specialist is disabled.
• Educational background in Mining, Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Construction Engineering, or other relevant discipline.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Extensive experience in demolition, decommissioning, heavy industrial construction, or related brownfield project environments.
• Strong understanding of demolition sequencing, execution planning, constructability principles and contractor methodologies.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors and external stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of Quality Management, Environmental Management and Health & Safety requirements applicable to industrial demolition projects.
• Solid understanding of mining facilities, mineral processing plants, heavy industrial infrastructure, civil works and structural systems.
• Strong communication, facilitation and technical review capabilities.
• Ability to identify technical risks, challenge contractor proposals and support decision-making processes.
• Full professional proficiency in English (written and verbal).
• 15–20 years of experience in mining, heavy industrial construction, demolition, decommissioning or comparable industries.
• Demonstrated demolition and decommissioning experience, preferably involving large industrial facilities, processing plants or brownfield operating environments.
• Roster 5x2, with sporadic site visit to Escondida.
• Based in Santiago.
